About Wangaratta

Wangaratta is situated in Victoria's North East Alpine Valley between the Ovens and King Rivers. The City of Wangaratta encompasses the Milawa Gourmet Region, King Valley, Glenrowan, Eldorado, and the Rural City of Wangaratta to name a few. Wangaratta's population is approximately 18,500 and growing.

Wangaratta is centrally located to world class wineries, gourmet eateries, spectacular mountains, valleys, rivers, and streams. The region also boasts the beginning of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and Great Alpine Road and is therefore a popular cycling destination.
Immerse yourself into the historic links to Ned Kelly and the Gold Rush or try your luck at fishing in any of the local rivers or streams.
Just a couple of hours to Falls Creek and Mt Hotham makes Wangaratta a great stop over before the last leg to the mountain.

Getting to Wangaratta

By Car: -

Although there are numerous picturesque routes to choose from, the shortest and most comfortable drive is straight along the Hume Freeway. Simply set the cruise control at 110 km and enjoy the scenery as you travel along this well maintained major arterial route.

By Rail & Bus: - (Intrastate)

If you would rather not drive, rail services from Melbourne are offered three times daily by V-Line (2.48 hours) and twice daily by CountryLink XPT (2.17 hours). A Bus service is also offered twice daily by Firefly Express (3.00 hours). There are also buses travelling to and from Bright, Beechworth, Chiltern, Corowa, Glenrowan, Mulwala, and Shepparton.

Wangaratta is a Rural City located just two and a half hours north of Melbourne along the Hume Freeway. The vibrant CBD has daily rail services between Melbourne and Sydney stopping at the Wangaratta station.
